“We [the Socialist Party] did not find any positives in this labor legislation proposal,” stated the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party at the sidelines of a ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union at the European Parliament in Brussels.
José Luís Carneiro referred to an article by the British magazine “The Economist,” which named Portugal as the “economy of the year” for 2025, citing the “full employment the country has been experiencing, the relative economic growth, and considering that labor laws were approved two years ago with contributions from the PSD itself,” to conclude that “there is no justification for moving forward with changes” to labor legislation.
For the Socialist Secretary-General, Luís Montenegro’s executive is responsible for “disrupting social peace” by proposing changes to the law “without dialogue, without consultation, and without respecting workers’ representations.”
