One dead and five injured in a road collision in the municipality of Sines

A traffic accident occurred at 8:00 a.m. on the Municipal Road 554 (EM554), connecting Porto Covo and Sines in the Setúbal district, as reported by a representative from the Alentejo Coast Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.

The collision resulted in a 31-year-old Indian national going into cardiac arrest due to his injuries. Despite resuscitation efforts, he succumbed to his wounds. Additionally, a severely injured 30-year-old, also Indian, and two lightly injured individuals aged 29 and 31 from the same country were involved, according to the representative.

The other slightly wounded individuals include a 29-year-old Portuguese and a 32-year-old Brazilian man, as detailed.

“The five injured have been transported to Litoral Alentejano Hospital in the Santiago do Cacém municipality,” the source from the Civil Protection command confirmed, adding that the deceased’s body remains at the accident site.

The road collision caused a complete closure of both traffic directions on the EM554 to facilitate rescue efforts. As of 9:45 a.m., the road remains closed, confirmed by the Civil Protection and the GNR’s Territorial Command of Setúbal.

A total of 20 emergency personnel were mobilized to the scene, supported by nine vehicles, including resources from the fire department, GNR, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency, with the Immediate Life Support ambulance from Sines and the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle from the Litoral Alentejano Hospital.

The GNR has also deployed the Road Traffic Accident Crime Investigation Unit (NICAV) to the location.
