14-meter waves force the cancellation of the Madeira–Porto Santo route

The ferry company announced on its official page that the departure of the Lobo Marinho from Funchal, scheduled for 08:00, and the return from Porto Santo at 18:00, have been “canceled due to adverse weather conditions that could compromise the safety of passengers and the vessel.”

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued yellow warnings, escalated to red (the most severe of a four-tier scale), due to forecasts of strong maritime agitation, with waves reaching up to a maximum height of 14 meters on the northern coast of Madeira Island and in Porto Santo.

From 15:00 on Friday, the warning level will be orange, with waves potentially reaching 12.5 meters, escalating to red from 00:00 to 06:00 on Saturday, with expected wave heights between 7 to 7.5 meters and up to 14 meters.

In mountainous areas, the wind warning is orange, with gusts that may reach 130 kilometers per hour.

An orange warning is also in effect for the southern coast of Madeira Island, where strong maritime agitation is forecast with waves potentially up to 10 meters.
