Noel Afonso, the sub-regional commander of Civil Protection for Terras de Trás-os-Montes, reported that a car veered off course and collided with an ambulance from the Macedo de Cavaleiros Fire Department, traveling in the opposite direction.
The accident resulted in four injuries, including two serious cases: the driver of the car and the patient being transported in the ambulance. The other two injured were the firefighters in the ambulance, who sustained minor injuries, according to the official.
As of 11:15, the accident was still causing traffic disruptions, with alternating traffic flow on that section of the IP2 in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, in the district of Bragança.
The alert was issued at 09:45, with 10 emergency personnel and four vehicles responding at the scene.
