PRR? “There will be no extension of the deadline. There is much work ahead”

“There will be no extension of the deadline. There is still much work ahead, and implementing the measures will represent a very important effort,” warned Breidthardt, speaking in Lisbon at an event organized by the Mission Structure for Recovery of Portugal.

Annika Breidthardt highlighted the daily effort made by all beneficiaries to meet the goals of the RRP, as well as the “hard work” done by Recover Portugal, responsible for monitoring the plan.

“I am sure that this work is worth it. We will be able to build a stronger, more resilient, and competitive Portugal and Europe,” she emphasized.

The Economic Advisor of the European Commission reminded that, five years ago, Portugal aimed to be the first to present its plan and achieved this goal.

“I thought: how are we going to achieve all of this? Today, five years later, here we are, and the answer to my question is here in front of me and across the country,” she noted.

Breidthardt mentioned that often the focus is on the implementation of the RRP, but considered it important to look at what the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism has accomplished not only in Portugal but in Europe.

Brussels recalled that this mechanism emerged from the crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic and everything was achieved “in a difficult context,” marked by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the energy crisis, and inflation, as well as supply chain problems and climate disasters.

The RRP, which runs until 2026, aims to implement a series of reforms and investments to recover economic growth.

Besides aiming to repair the damage caused by covid-19, this plan intends to support investments and create jobs.
