Civil Protection confirms that “all occurrences were promptly resolved at the municipal level.”

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed the north coast of Madeira and Porto Santo under a red warning due to strong sea agitation, effective until 3:00 PM today.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds keep Madeira under an orange warning until Sunday.

The Madeira archipelago is currently affected by depression Emília, bringing strong winds, snow, and occasionally heavy rain.

The Port of Funchal’s captaincy has extended warnings for strong sea agitation, poor visibility, and stormy winds in the archipelago’s waters until 6:00 AM Sunday.

The regional maritime authority reports strong to very strong northerly winds, occasionally stormy (between 75 and 87 km/h until mid-afternoon), gradually becoming moderate to very fresh northeast winds (up to 50 km/h) by late afternoon.

Visibility is expected to be “moderate to poor, sometimes bad, improving to good to moderate, sometimes poor, by the end of the period.”

Waves are forecasted to reach six to eight meters on the north coast and up to 5.5 meters on the western part of the southern coast.

Maritime authorities advise all maritime communities and the general public to exercise caution, both in preparing to go to sea and while at sea or in coastal areas.

The captaincy emphasizes securing and closely monitoring moored and anchored vessels, avoiding walks near the sea or areas exposed to sea agitation, and refraining from recreational fishing.
