Traffic is closed on sections 11, 12, and 13 of the National Road (EN) 338 due to snow. This affects the route between Piornos [in the municipality of Covilhã], the Torre, and Lagoa Comprida [in the municipality of Seia], as stated by a source from the Sub-regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of the Beiras and Serra da Estrela to Lusa Agency.
The same source noted that there is no estimate for when the road, which crosses the highest point of Serra da Estrela, will reopen.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco under an orange warning due to the forecast of snow.
The alert is in effect until 12:00 AM on Saturday, predicting snowfall above 1,400/1,600 meters in altitude, with accumulation possibly exceeding 25 centimeters at the highest points of Serra da Estrela.
