More than 200,000 voters can already vote today across the country

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Republic, is one of more than 200,000 voters who have registered for early voting today, a week before the day of the legislative elections.

In total, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), 208,007 voters asked to vote today.

This is less than in the 2022 legislative elections (315,785 registered), but much more than in the 2019 legislative elections (56,291).

The so-called mobile vote allows voters to cast their ballot a week before in a municipality of their choice. If they don’t, they can do so on election day, i.e. March 10.

More than 10.8 million Portuguese are being asked to vote for 230 members of Parliament.

Eighteen political forces, 15 parties and three coalitions are running in these elections.

Among those registered is the President of the Republic, who has decided to vote in advance because he feels clear about the candidates’ proposals and considers it a stimulus against abstention.

Introduced with the entry into force of Organic Law no. 3/218, on the occasion of the election of Portuguese members of the European Parliament in 2019, the early mobile voting method was chosen by 285,848 in the 2022 legislative elections.
