Taxpayers will be able to start submitting their IRS returns from next week, beginning on April 1, with refunds expected to be deposited into accounts within a few weeks. In an informative leaflet about automated IRS, the Tax Authority (AT) provides two important details regarding refunds that need attention:
- To receive a refund via bank transfer, taxpayers should register or update their IBAN by navigating to: Cidadãos > Serviços > Dados Cadastrais – IBAN – Alterar IBAN.
- If without a bank account, they should request credit assignment in favor of a third party by going to: Cidadãos > Serviços > Cedência de Créditos – Pedido de Cedência and providing the tax identification number (NIF) of the person to whom the credit should be paid.
The IRS submission campaign begins on April 1 and extends until the end of June, as is customary every year.
By the end of the month, however, taxpayers should verify expenses calculated for deductions and decide which entity will receive their IRS, VAT, or both consignment.
