A five-year-old boy has died in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, Madeira, following a cardiac arrest.
The Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters reported that they were called at 8:25 PM on Wednesday to attend to a child experiencing cardiac arrest.
The victim was transported to the Central Hospital of Funchal, where he was pronounced dead.
Initial reports indicated that the Judicial Police were investigating the incident due to potential suspicions of a crime. However, further clarification from the authorities was unavailable.
Family members stated it was a “tragic accident.” According to them, the boy was playing and went to retrieve a toy from the car. His father, noticing the delay, found him unconscious after searching for him.
The child reportedly inadvertently activated the car window’s closing button and subsequently suffocated.
INEM and the firefighters were present at the scene and made every effort to save the child, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
