The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced on Sunday that a 53-year-old man has been arrested by the Central Directorate for the alleged repeated commission of sexual abuse crimes against a person incapable of resistance, which took place in Figueira da Foz.
In a statement, the authorities confirmed that the suspect is the father of the 23-year-old victim.
The man “exploited his ascendant relationship and the particular vulnerability of his daughter, who suffers from a severe mental disorder, to subject her to abusive sexual practices for approximately one year.”
The PJ initiated the investigation following a report filed by the institution where the victim is a client, leading to the opening of an inquiry and subsequent evidence-gathering efforts, which ultimately resulted in the aggressor’s arrest.
The suspect has been presented for an initial judicial interrogation, resulting in the imposition of a preventive detention measure.
