Prices in Mozambique with a slight increase from February to March

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) from Mozambique’s National Statistics Institute (INE) indicates a 0.06% increase in prices compared to February’s 0.52%, with the clothing and footwear sectors contributing 0.05 percentage points to the overall monthly variation.

This marks the seventh consecutive monthly increase following a period of four months of deflation: 0.11% in August, 0.05% in July, 0.21% in June, and 0.38% in May.

The INE also notes that, compared to 2024, the CPI shows a year-on-year price increase of 4.77%, largely driven by the food and non-alcoholic beverages sector and the restaurants, hotels, cafés, and similar sector, which rose by 12.08% and 6.09% respectively within a year.

The accumulated inflation for 2024 is reported to be 4.15%, as per previous INE data, which is lower than the 5.3% recorded in 2023 but significantly below the peak of nearly 13% reached in July 2022.
