IRC, fuels, and housing. How was the debate between PS and PAN?

The ongoing debates among political parties related to the legislative elections scheduled for May 18 continue to unfold. On Saturday, a face-off occurred between Pedro Nuno Santos of the Socialist Party (PS) and Inês Sousa Real from the People–Animals–Nature Party (PAN).

The debate, featuring the PS Secretary-General speaking from studios in Porto and the PAN spokesperson, was dominated by discussions on fiscal issues. The parties are at odds over corporate tax (IRC) and fuel taxation, with further disagreements on responses to the housing crisis emerging between the two candidates.

During the debate, Inês Sousa Real accused Pedro Nuno Santos of aligning too closely with the far-left on corporate tax matters. In response, the PS leader refuted this accusation, suggesting that true radicalism lies in losing 1.26 billion euros through “tax giveaways.”

The legislative elections are scheduled to take place on May 18, following the fall of the government after a vote of no confidence was defeated.

The full schedule of debates can be viewed.
