The festival unveiled its program, themed ‘The Ritual of Dance,’ on Friday to align with the celebrations of April 25, 1974, a date marking the end of dictatorship and colonialism in the region where Boom originated and continues to thrive, as stated on its official website.
Boom Festival offers a holistic program that includes lectures, workshops, art installations, animated cinema, meditation areas, gastronomy, and music. The event features dozens of performances, concerts, and DJ sets, showcasing various branches of electronic, experimental, and world music.
Among the featured artists are musician João Gomes, Bateu Matou, the duo Miramar, consisting of Frankie Chavez and Peixe, Batida and Monogatari (Gabriel Gomes), as well as DJs Atmos (Sweden), FutureMoon (Germany), Anoebis (Belgium), Anakirk (Finland), and Rui Vargas & Zé Salvador (Portugal).
Artistic interventions are expected from Android Jones, invited to create this year’s visual identity for Boom, the artist duo Mariana Branco and Emanuel Barreira, known as Halfstudio, and the light art project Ocubo.
The 15th Boom Festival is scheduled from July 17 to 24 at Herdade da Granja, on the shores of Barragem Marechal Carmona. The 40,000 tickets sold out last October, purchased by attendees from 169 countries before the lineup was even announced.
In October, the organizers explained that “the number of tickets available for sale is intentionally limited to ensure harmony between human presence and the natural environment of the 150-hectare Boomland.”
Boom is an independent, sponsor-free, multi-awarded festival, recognized for its environmental consciousness, with significant actions to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
