
At 2:50 PM Lisbon time, the broad S&P 500 index rose by 0.77% to 5,612.14 points.
Meanwhile, the selective Dow Jones advanced 0.51% to reach 40,877.36 points, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 1.91% totaling 17,780.26 points.
On Wednesday, Wall Street closed with mixed results, as investors remained cautious amid an uncertain economy and focused on corporate earnings.
The Dow Jones increased by 0.35%, the Nasdaq ended nearly unchanged with a slight decline of 0.09%, and the S&P 500 climbed 0.15%.
Unemployment claims in the United States reached 241,000 last week, marking an increase of 18,000 from the revised figure of the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced today.
“For the week ending April 26, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 241,000, reflecting an increase of 18,000 from the revised level of the previous week,” stated the entity in a release.
The previous week’s level was revised upward, from 222,000 to 223,000.
The advance seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 1.3% for the week ending April 19, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the unrevised rate of the prior week, it was indicated.
In the same week, the number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons was 1,916,000, an increase of 83,000 from the revised level of the previous week.
This represents the highest unemployment level since November 13, 2021, when it was 1,970,000, added the DOL.
