Celebrating the 114th anniversary of the National Republican Guard (GNR), the President of Portugal remarked on the significant contributions of this institution, intertwining its history with that of the country itself.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa honored “114 years of dedication, sacrifice, and an unwavering sense of mission by all who serve” in the GNR.
“As a long-established institution, GNR has consistently performed a firm and preventive role while being supportive and approachable, ensuring the rule of democratic legality and the safety of citizens who trust in its protection both in Portugal and worldwide,” he emphasized.
In the same declaration, he noted that the future of institutions is built “every day,” further acknowledging that “the history of the Guard is crafted daily by its military and civilian members.” President Marcelo expressed renewed appreciation to them for their constant readiness in safeguarding Portugal.
