A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) in the early hours of May 2 in Leiria, for committing domestic violence, making threats, and causing damage. The individual is a repeat offender.

At around 5:35 a.m., the PSP’s Command and Control Center in Leiria received a report that a man was “kicking at the door of a residence” in Leiria, “intending to enter and harm the inhabitants inside.”

Police units responded to the scene, observing a visibly aggressive and agitated man on the street, according to the police statement.

Even in the presence of authorities, the man managed to unexpectedly run and kick the building’s door, then continued towards the residence’s door, kicking it again.

Inside the residence were the suspect’s 25-year-old girlfriend, their 10-month-old child, and her parents.

“Fearing for their safety, the victim’s parents barricaded the door with furniture, as the lock was already damaged by the suspect,” stated the PSP. During the incident, the suspect threatened to kill all the residents, and insulted his girlfriend.

The man was taken to his first judicial hearing and was imposed with the following protective measures: a prohibition on contacting the victim’s parents, a ban from entering the city of Leiria, and maintaining a distance of at least 1km from the victim, enforced via electronic monitoring.

The PSP noted that the accused has a criminal record, including a prior conviction for domestic violence.
