The number of IRS declarations submitted through the Finance Portal has surpassed three million, one month into the 2024 income declaration campaign.
As of 01:32 AM on Monday, May 5, the Finance Portal reports that 3,060,697 declarations have been submitted. The majority of these (2,246,924) are from taxpayers who last year only reported income from dependent work or pensions.
The remaining 813,773 declarations are from individuals with other types of income, such as rental income or self-employment earnings.
These figures include submissions made since the start of the year, which pertain to replacement declarations or first-time submissions for income from previous years, and thus do not form part of the current IRS campaign.
What about the refunds?
Within the first two weeks, the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) processed 524,000 of the submitted IRS declarations. Of these, around 300,000 resulted in refunds totaling 200 million euros, according to Finance Ministry data.
From the over half a million processed declarations by April 15, 82,000 led to payment notices amounting to 35 million euros.
On average, the value of refunds processed within the first 15 days was approximately 670 euros, while taxpayers with payment notices owed an average of 426 euros.

The annual IRS declaration submission commenced on April 1 and concludes on June 30, being the deadline for all taxpayers, regardless of income type, to fulfill this reporting obligation.
