Eight individuals and a dog were rescued last Saturday afternoon, May 3, after accidentally falling into a water line while hiking Trail 14 in Serra da Estrela.
“Unable to exit by themselves, the group required specialized assistance. The rescue operation was carried out efficiently, ensuring all involved were safely removed without the need for medical attention,” stated a post from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, shared on Facebook.
The Regional Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela received the alert at 17:06, noting that “the prompt response on the ground was crucial to prevent more severe consequences, given the rugged and slippery nature of the area where the incident occurred.”
The rescue operation involved 13 personnel supported by five vehicles, including teams from the Covilhã, Manteigas, and São Romão Fire Departments, as well as the Special Civil Protection Force and the GNR-UEPS Mountain Group.
