
A woman was fatally struck by a train on the Lisbon Metro at the Encarnação station on Tuesday, the Lisbon Fire Brigade confirmed.
The deceased was described as a “young student,” though her age has not been determined. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The alert came in at 4:15 PM, prompting the deployment of 23 personnel supported by seven vehicles. These included the Lisbon Fire Brigade, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), and the Public Security Police.
On social media, the Lisbon Metro announced that “due to an incident with a passenger, service has been suspended between the Airport and Bela Vista stations” on the Red Line.
The company also noted, “it is not possible to predict the duration of the interruption, which might be extended.”
