A new executive appointment has been made in the semi-autonomous Chinese region, as Ng Wai Han assumed the role of the first female leader of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), according to an official bulletin dated April 24.
The order, signed by Anton Tai Kin Ip, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, highlights that Ng possesses the necessary professional competence and capability for the position, as evidenced by her curriculum vitae, despite having no known prior experience in the gaming or casino industries.
Ng Wai Han holds a bachelor’s degree in Law and a master’s degree in Criminal Law. Her career includes 21 years at the Labour Affairs Bureau and an additional five years at the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau.
Her appointment follows a vacancy of over four months, caused by the previous director, Adriano Marques Ho, being appointed in December as the new Director-General of the Customs Services.
During this interim period, the DICJ was led by Deputy Director Lio Chi Chong, a former criminal investigator with Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ).
Adriano Marques Ho also hailed from the PJ, where he headed the department responsible for investigating economic crimes, including those associated with gaming.
On the same date, the bulletin confirmed the retirement of Benjamin Chan Sau San, the President of the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM), from April 1. This financial regulatory body’s decision was previously announced by Chan in an interview with the Hong Kong Economic Journal at the end of March.
