A 45-year-old man was arrested on May 3 after robbing a pharmacy at gunpoint in the Alvalade district of Lisbon.
The perpetrator was detained by two passersby who, after hearing the victim’s cries, chased, intercepted, and restrained him until the arrival of the Public Security Police (PSP), according to a statement from the security force sent to media outlets on Wednesday.
“At the scene, a replica firearm used by the suspect to intimidate the pharmacy staff and steal money from the cash register was seized,” detailed the PSP.
The statement also revealed that the man was “equipped with masks and various garments, possibly intended for use in his escape, to deceive police measures, material which was confiscated.”
The suspect was taken to COMETLIS detention facilities to appear for a preliminary judicial hearing and was remanded in custody.
This action was carried out by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, through the 2nd Police Division.
