With a brisk pace under a sky heavy with imminent rain, the Socialist Party (PS) conducted a brief walk through Chaves’ city center in the district of Vila Real today. The march culminated in a rally at the city’s Municipal Theater, marking the sixth day of the campaign.

Concluding the walk, Pedro Nuno Santos addressed “comrades, friends, and supporters of the PS” from a cement block using a megaphone. He urged mobilization among the Portuguese for a significant victory on May 18.

“The people of this district know well: investments in Vila Real’s infrastructure have always come from PS governments and will continue to do so,” he emphasized.

According to the PS leader, while the PS boasts “great candidates” from Trás-os-Montes, Vila Real, and Chaves, the AD fronts “one of the main figures responsible for the chaotic and unstable state of healthcare in Vila Real and the country,” referring to Health Minister Ana Paula Martins.

“On May 18, we will demonstrate the strength of those who desire a secure change with stability. This can only be achieved with the PS, which has competent, experienced individuals ready to govern the country and tackle issues others could not,” he stated.

Moments earlier, responding to journalists, Pedro Nuno Santos reiterated the notion that the “greatest danger facing the Portuguese is a radical alliance between the AD and the IL.” He warned that this alliance poses a significant threat to pensions, the national health service, and the social state. “The real danger we must avoid is an AD and IL coalition,” he noted.

For the PS secretary-general, the combination of IL with AD presents a severe threat to the country.

“The PS ensures stability. We know that someone with Luis Montenegro’s past cannot assure stability in the future,” he added.

Pedro Nuno Santos expressed the aim of regaining victory in Vila Real since, in 2024, the PS fell 10% behind the AD, albeit securing the same two deputies.

“The warm reception here in Chaves measures the district’s enthusiasm and commitment to us because this district is aware that most of its structural investments were made by PS governments,” he noted with emphasis.
