During a rally in Vila Real that marked the sixth day of the official campaign for the legislative elections on May 18, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez conveyed a “very clear message of support and strength at this decisive moment” through a projected video.
“Portugal is facing a crucial election with impacts not only on a Portuguese level but also on a European and international level,” he warned.
For the Spanish head of government, “in times of uncertainties,” there is a need for “progressive, courageous, well-prepared leadership committed to the values of democratic socialism,” values shared by the Socialist Party (PS) and the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE).
“Pedro Nuno, you embody all of this. You have the determination, vision, and commitment necessary to lead Portugal with social justice, transformational ambition, and a sense of state,” he praised.
Sánchez highlighted the relationship between the two parties as “fraternal, solid, deeply historical,” reiterating the support of Spanish socialists.
“We stand with you on this path of hope and conviction. Strength to you, Pedro Nuno,” he emphasized.
