Government extends applications for support in response to bluetongue until May 23

The deadline for requesting financial aid due to income losses caused by the bluetongue virus has been extended to May 23, 2025, according to a statement from the Institute of Financing for Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP).

This support targets holders of sheep experiencing a reduction in income of less than 30%.

The aid amounts to 48 euros per deceased sheep, registered in the National Animal Information and Registry System (SNIRA), with a total allocation of 1.9 million euros.

To qualify, beneficiaries must have documented production losses of less than 30% and have their animals legally registered in SNIRA. Additionally, they must report the death of the sheep occurring between September 5, 2024, and January 16, 2025.

Applications are to be submitted through the IFAP portal by filling out the designated form.

Bluetongue, or ovine catarrhal fever, is a notifiable viral disease that affects ruminants but is not transmissible to humans.
