The northern coast, southern coast, Porto Santo, and mountainous regions are under an orange warning until 9:00 am, after which a yellow warning will be in effect until 9:00 pm, as stated by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
This agency forecasts “showers, occasionally heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and potentially hail.”
The yellow warning for thunderstorms was also issued in the archipelago until 8:00 am today.
The IPMA issues an orange warning whenever there is a moderate to high-risk meteorological situation. The yellow warning, the least severe on a three-tier scale, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological conditions.
