Food poisoning in Oeiras kindergartens. Staff assisted

A series of food poisoning cases were reported on Friday at three kindergartens in the Oeiras region, according to information from the National Directorate of the PSP. The cases affected adult staff members working at these institutions.

The Oeiras City Council announced late on Friday that 15 staff members, including both teaching and non-teaching personnel at three social welfare institutions in Barcarena and Queijas, were attended to at São Francisco Xavier, Amadora, and Cascais hospitals following a food poisoning incident.

“There are no records of affected children, as the meals provided for adults and children are sourced from different locations. The Oeiras health authority is monitoring the situation and conducting necessary analyses to determine the cause of this food poisoning,” the statement said.

According to the PSP, one of the affected sites, O Pingolé Kindergarten in Porto Salvo, Oeiras, reported 10 cases among staff members.

The Greater Lisbon Sub-regional Civil Protection Command informed that nine individuals, all adults, experienced mild symptoms of food poisoning at this kindergarten.

The alert for the incident was raised at 4:24 PM on Friday. Of the affected individuals, five were transported to Fernando Fonseca Hospital in Amadora, and four to São Francisco Xavier Hospital in Lisbon, detailed the source from Civil Protection.

The PSP further reported that 12 staff members at O Traquinas Kindergarten in Queijas, Oeiras, also experienced food poisoning cases.

At a third institution, O Tão Balalão Kindergarten in Porto Salvo, Oeiras, the PSP recorded 13 cases of food poisoning among staff.

The source noted that not all affected staff received medical attention or were transported to hospitals, with no further information available at this time.

The local government, led by Isaltino Morais, stated that assistance was promptly provided, and support continues for the affected employees and their families.
