The National Republican Guard (GNR), through the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA), activated “80 Primary Network Watch Posts (PV), manned by a total of 320 operators,” on Monday, as stated in a recent announcement.

This initiative is part of the Fire Surveillance and Detection Network, which incorporates the Forest Video Surveillance System and the National Network of Watch Posts under the Safe Forest Campaign 2025.

Beginning on June 29, an additional 150 Secondary Network Watch Posts will be activated, run by 600 more technicians, the statement added, highlighting that the Forest Video Surveillance System currently comprises “147 video surveillance cameras.”

In terms of awareness activities, the GNR conducted a total of 2,845 initiatives up to Wednesday, reaching 55,150 individuals, “aimed at preventing risky behaviors, promoting self-protection measures, and encouraging responsible use of fire by communities.”

“So far, 18 arrests have been made, including 14 in flagrante delicto, with 136 suspects identified as well,” the GNR reported.

During this phase, military personnel are on the ground traversing “fuel management strips” (linear structures planned at a regional scale designed to reduce potential fire-affected areas and create opportunities for effective and safe firefighting) in priority parishes. The goal is to signal and georeference rural lands “with potential fire risks.”

Simultaneously, information and awareness activities are being promoted targeting property owners to clear their lands by the end of the month, thereby preventing “non-compliance” starting June 1.

“The primary aim of this phase of the campaign is prevention through awareness actions directed at citizens and entities, aiming to modify behaviors,” it was noted.

The Safe Forest Campaign 2025, which began on February 1 and runs until November 30, “contributes decisively to a significant reduction in serious incidents,” through prevention and enhanced patrols in forest areas, it was further commented.
