“With the Liberal Initiative in the event of a crisis, they would seize that opportunity to attack our social state, the NHS, pensions, and public school,” warned Pedro Nuno Santos during a luncheon rally in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga district.
The socialist leader recalled the intervention of his opponent in the last internal elections, José Luís Carneiro, who stated that “the PS is a safe haven.”
“It is not only a pillar of the values of April but also of stability; the Portuguese know they can count on us, that in difficult times the PS overcomes these moments by protecting families and workers,” he noted.
According to Pedro Nuno Santos, “when the PS governs, it intends to use the State to provide people with security.”
“In uncertain times, our measures are those that protect the people,” he said, listing the PS’s main electoral proposals for the legislative elections, such as zero VAT for essential food items.
The PS leader pointed out that “it was with the PS” that the country overcame “the austerity of Passos Coelho, the pandemic, the inflation peak of recent years.”
“It will be with the PS that we will overcome the moment of economic and political uncertainty that the world is experiencing,” he promised, assuring that “it is with the PS that the people can always count.”
