“We are not aligned with the interests of the powerful; we stand by the interests of the people and will fight for transparency concerning the issue of dams, as we want the people’s interests and public interest to be respected,” declared the leader of the Socialist Party (PS) during a campaign rally in the Trás-os-Montes district, where a movement advocating for property tax on dams originated.
Pedro Nuno Santos added assurance, stating: “We do not govern for the lobbyists; we defend the public interest, and that’s why I want to tell the Movement of Miranda Land that they can count on the PS, as the PS values the work you have done for the community.”
The fiscal aspect of the dams has been a topic of discussion since EDP sold six dams in the Trás-os-Montes region (Miranda do Douro, Picote, Bemposta, Baixo Sabor, Feiticeiro, and Tua) for 2.2 billion euros to a consortium led by Engie, with the transaction concluding at the end of 2020.
