“We are on an accelerating path to victory,” stated Pedro Nuno Santos after traveling from Santo Tirso to Famalicão on his motorcycle, appropriately dressed in a biker jacket, gloves, and helmet.

As he departed, someone shouted, “go for it, Pedro.” The obstacle-free route was described by him as “spectacular.” Earlier, Pedro Nuno Santos had received one of the largest welcomes and street rallies of this election campaign in Santo Tirso.

Many gathered to await and accompany him on a day filled with the scent of burning rubber and the roar of engines, as the city in the Porto district hosts a stage of the Northern Rally Championship this weekend.

Pedro Nuno Santos navigated the streets, stopping frequently for kisses or ‘selfies.’ He visited pastry shops selling the typical Jesuit sweets and left a message at one of the oldest haberdasheries in the North, now 165 years old.

Out on the street, he sat on a bench to have Mr. Silva shine his shoes. Silva has worked as a shoeshiner for 50 years and had also polished the shoes of Mário Soares.

“I am the only shoeshiner in Santo Tirso who shined the shoes of a President of the Republic,” Silva stated, explaining that “for things to be done well, they need time.”

Pedro Nuno agreed but requested, “but it can’t take too long because I am in a rally and need to proceed to Famalicão.”

“He’s shining the shoes of the prime minister,” someone was heard shouting nearby.

As drummers set the rhythm of the rally, rose petals fell onto Pedro Nuno Santos from a nearby apartment window. Also, in the skies, early in the morning, a paraglider could be seen with “PS votes” written on it.

“It has been a wonderful day here in Santo Tirso with many enthusiastic people. You can feel on the streets that people believe the PS will win the elections,” he emphasized.

Throughout the morning, Pedro Nuno Santos reiterated the message that the PS will win the elections and that “this is the path to victory.”

“In recent days, there has been a growing trend, which means that regarding the polls, they are right, the PS is growing, and we will win these elections. People realized that with this AD and this prime minister, they cannot solve their problems nor achieve stability,” he noted.

The campaign celebration continued in Famalicão with a lunch featuring live music, bifanas, and caldo verde.
