An overview of recent security measures surrounding the Lisbon football derby reveals heightened police activity as authorities detained a fan for attempting to run over a police officer. The incident occurred on Avenida António Stromp after the 1-1 draw between the city rivals.
Further actions by the Public Security Police (PSP) led to the identification of ten other supporters. Four were cited for administrative offenses, three for the possession and handling of pyrotechnic devices, and one for holding an illicit banner.
Additional identifications were made for criminal offenses, with two individuals involved in altercations between fans, one for offenses against a stadium attendant (ARD), and another for insulting an ARD.
The PSP spokesperson highlighted that two individuals were prevented from entering Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz. One was barred due to a blood alcohol content exceeding legal limits, while the other refused a breathalyzer test.

The PSP confirmed that the Sporting fans were escorted without incident from Estádio José Alvalade to Estádio da Luz.
Inquiries regarding the individual intercepted on the field post-match are underway, according to police officials, with the person soon to be identified.
Following the draw, both Sporting and Benfica enter the 34th and final matchday with identical records of 79 points. Sporting holds an advantage in head-to-head results, needing only to match Benfica’s result in their upcoming games against Vitória de Guimarães and Sporting de Braga, respectively.
