
The Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António seized 21 bales of narcotic material on Thursday morning, accounting for approximately 876 kilograms (kg), during a patrol operation south of the Guadiana River estuary.
“Following the operation, bales, presumably containing narcotic material, were detected in Portuguese territorial waters, prompting officials from the Port Authority and the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António to retrieve them,” stated the National Maritime Authority in a communiqué.
During the collection of the materials, “which were heading towards Spanish territorial waters,” neighboring authorities were immediately contacted “to proceed with their retrieval.”
“The seized narcotic product, approximately 876 kg, will subsequently be handed over to the Polícia Judiciária,” it stated.
The Local Command of the Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António recorded the incident.
