A 37-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Olhão, Algarve, for attempted murder, as announced by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in a statement released today.
According to investigators, the victim is a 35-year-old man who was shot with a firearm. The injuries sustained were so severe that he is now in a life-threatening condition, in an induced coma, at the Intensive Care Unit of Faro Hospital.
The crime took place on May 6, prompted by “the intensification of poor neighborhood relations” between the victim and the alleged perpetrator’s wife. This tension arose from the victim’s refusal to accept the couple’s residency in a property they had acquired through inheritance.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene. However, following several inquiries, authorities were able to identify, locate, and detain him.
The suspect was brought before the appropriate judicial authorities for the first judicial interrogation of a detained defendant, where appropriate coercive measures were determined, resulting in his remand in custody.
During his initial judicial hearing, the defendant was placed in preventive detention.
