Ana Gomes provided her analysis this Sunday on SIC Notícias regarding the ongoing strike by CP workers.
The former Member of the European Parliament criticized the government, describing its handling of the strike as particularly poor, holding it primarily accountable for the situation.
“This is yet another strike where the government has completely failed to negotiate, similar to the INEM strike, during which 11 people died,” remarked the socialist, accusing the administration of abdicating its responsibilities.
She added, “The government refused to negotiate. It has a dual responsibility as it is the government that triggered the strike by claiming to be a caretaker government to avoid fulfilling a salary agreement it had reached with sector unions. Consequently, the government not only fails to honor the agreement but also avoids negotiation and, subsequently, does not ensure minimum services,” she asserted, referencing Pedro Nuno Santos, who, as former Minister of Infrastructure, managed to ensure minimum services during various CP strikes.
According to Ana Gomes, the need to amend the strike law—an action the Prime Minister attempted alongside the neoliberals of the Liberal Initiative—is unfounded, as “minimum services have been decreed for this week.”
