Pedro Nuno does not anticipate scenarios but promises SNS reform if he is in government.

On the final day of the electoral campaign and before participating in the traditional descent of Chiado in Lisbon, Pedro Nuno Santos addressed journalists, emphasizing that the Socialist Party (PS) is “on the rise” and urging people to vote.

When asked if he had engaged with any left-wing parties regarding post-election scenarios, he replied, “The only contact we have is with the Portuguese people; there are no others beyond them.”

He stated, “We do not determine the parliamentary configuration, and I am neither a commentator nor an analyst to speculate or predict scenarios.” However, he insisted that “the PS must win these elections.”

“That is our focus, and with the parliament that results from the elections, we will ensure a solution for four years of stability. We have demonstrated our capability to do so, and I have also shown I can achieve this,” he emphasized.

When questioned about the first measure to implement if the PS forms the government, he mentioned, “Quickly re-establishing the team” the PS government had and “resuming the reform of the National Health Service (SNS)” already underway.

He highlighted, “We need to restart the SNS reform because saving it is essential, but we also need to ensure housing construction, reestablish the extraordinary rent support this government cut, and most importantly, give confidence and security to the Portuguese people,” he stressed.

He further added that “The PS has shown throughout its history that it has the ability to build stable governmental solutions, even without an absolute majority.”
