The Fiscal Action Unit of the National Republican Guard (GNR) conducted a nationwide operation on May 15, focusing on the monitoring of Specific Consumption Taxes. This effort led to the seizure of 1,600 cigarettes, 39 liters of alcoholic beverages, and 14 gaming machines. Moreover, two men were identified during the operation.
The operation primarily concentrated on the Alcohol and Alcoholic Beverages Tax, the Tobacco Tax, and gaming laws. The initiative aimed to inspect restaurants, bars, and other sales points that might illegally introduce alcoholic beverages and tobacco products into the market. Additional inspections were carried out on goods transport vehicles across major road networks.
According to a GNR statement, a total of 254 vehicles and 41 commercial establishments were inspected.
Authorities initiated a report on illegal gaming activities and issued 43 infractions. These included 31 for violations in the goods in circulation regime, six for breaches of the Alcohol and Alcoholic Beverages Tax, four for Tobacco Tax violations, and two for infringements related to illegal gaming.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 1,600 cigarettes; 39.1 liters of alcoholic beverages; 26.06 grams of loose tobacco; 1,350 grams of hookah tobacco; 100 ml of liquid nicotine; 480 heated tobacco sticks; 14 gaming machines; and €936.50 in cash.
Two men, aged 29 and 35, were identified as suspects related to illegal gambling activities, and the case has been referred to the Vila Real de Santo António Judicial Court.
