Did Albuquerque violate electoral law? CNE will “analyze” video after complaints

The president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, posted a video on Facebook urging citizens to vote for the AD on election Sunday. The post led to several complaints to the National Election Commission (CNE) over a possible breach of election law and was deleted approximately an hour later.

The news regarding the complaints was initially reported by Diário de Notícias and confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto by André Wemans, spokesperson for the CNE, who stated that the CNE would “review” the complaints.

“The video will be analyzed in due time. We will review it and allow the concerned party to respond. The CNE will not make a decision immediately. We will assess in a timely manner,” explained André Wemans.

In the nearly two-minute video, Miguel Albuquerque advocated for votes in favor of AD, citing “stability” and “crucial interests” of Madeira as being at stake.

Victor Spinola Freitas, a deputy from PS Madeira, was among those who reported the video to the CNE.

“I have just filed a complaint with the National Election Commission against the president of the government and PSD-M, Miguel Albuquerque, who today, on the day of national elections, posted a video appealing for votes for the AD on his Facebook page,” declared Victor Spinola Freitas.
