Pair on suspended sentence robs victim twice and breaks his tooth with a bat

Two 20-year-old individuals have been apprehended by the Public Security Police (PSP) in the parish union of Queluz and Belas, Sintra, on suspicions of committing two counts of aggravated robbery and one of bodily harm, it was reported on Monday.

The arrests, carried out on May 14, followed investigative efforts that “gathered sufficient evidence indicating the suspects were responsible for two separate robberies against the same victim,” according to a police statement.

In the first incident, the suspects “approached the victim using a baseball bat, with which they assaulted the victim, breaking a tooth.” During the assault, the PSP explained, “they stole a bank card and damaged a mobile phone, valued at approximately 600 euros.”

In a subsequent incident, “around a week later, they approached the same victim again, stealing 50 euros in cash.”

During the course of the investigation, the PSP managed to “additionally charge one of the detainees with a third robbery, in which they allegedly took a mobile phone, a wallet containing various personal documents, and 120 euros in cash.”

The two suspects, “who were under suspended sentences for similar offenses,” presented at an initial judicial interrogation. Given the seriousness of the facts and the continued criminal conduct, the most severe preventive measure was applied, resulting in their remand in custody.
