A 28-year-old man was arrested in Lisbon on May 15 after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred after he ran a red light in the São Vicente district.
The Public Security Police (PSP) reported in a statement released Monday to Notícias ao Minuto that the events unfolded at around 9:45 PM. Officers patrolling the area observed a motorcyclist failing to comply with a red traffic light.
The police immediately stopped the motorcycle for inspection. When they requested the driver’s documents and those of the vehicle, the officers noticed a “strong smell of alcohol emanating from the driver.”
The man was subsequently informed he would be required to take a breathalyzer test, which he refused, leading to his arrest and being formally charged.
