
The film, detailing the life of a 19-year-old adolescent released from prison in a small town as an ice blockage threatens to cause flooding, has been awarded Best Short Film at the Festival, the Leiria Film Fest organization announced today.
‘A river stifled’ (in Portuguese, ‘Um rio sufocado’) also secured the award for Best International Fiction Short Film.
In the fiction category, the award for the best national film went to ‘Uma mãe vai à praia,’ directed by Pedro Hasrouny.
In the documentary category, the Leiria Film Fest’s international award was given to ‘Inside, The Valley Sings’ by Nathan Fagan from the Republic of Ireland, while the national award was won by ‘A mestra,’ directed by Silvana Torricella.
In animation, the trophy for best international short film was awarded to ‘The sleeplessness of Jutka’ by Maria Gorlich-Opyd of Poland. ‘Amanhã não dão chuva,’ directed by Maria Trigo Teixeira, received the award for Best National Animation Short Film.
In the children’s competition, ‘Ups!’ by Galvão Bertazzi and Luís Canau emerged as the winner, while the Audience Award went to ‘Forgotten routes,’ a Ukrainian-British production by Varta Arutiunian.
The Leiria Film Fest concludes this Sunday at 21:30, with the screening of the winning films at Teatro Miguel Franco.
