Children’s Day: Ukrainians protest in front of the Russian embassy in Lisbon

The president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, Pavlo Sadokhav, stated today that over 600 children have died in Ukraine, and nearly 20,000 have been taken to Russian territory.

Pavlo also revealed that the association sent a letter to the General Inspection of Education, claiming that, allegedly, 7th-grade textbooks mention Crimea as Russian territory, urging authorities to remove “Russian propaganda from Portuguese textbooks.”

Portugal does not recognize Crimea as Russian territory following its annexation by Moscow in 2014.

The association used this day to preemptively mark the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, calling on the Portuguese government and the European community to end the war and bring peace.

Protesters used plastic babies to represent child victims of the war, alongside posters advocating for the end of hostilities.

Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which continues to this day.
