Pedro Nuno Santos assumes “for now” the mandate of deputy in the Parliament.

Pedro Nuno Santos resigned from the leadership of the PS following the electoral defeat in the legislative elections, announcing his decision on the evening of the elections while contemplating whether to continue as a deputy.

Today, speaking to Lusa agency, Pedro Nuno Santos confirmed that “for now” he will assume the mandate of deputy in the new legislature.

During the PS Political Committee meeting on May 24, where he stepped down from the party’s leadership, the former PS secretary-general declared that his “party political life” had ended, expressing no regret over the rejection of the confidence motion against the Government, arguing that “in an advanced democracy” Luís Montenegro would not be prime minister.

“I am no longer the secretary-general. I end here a journey of many years of dedication to the PS and the country”, he told journalists upon leaving the PS National Committee, reflecting on his efforts to “do the best he could for the Portuguese people”.

The former secretary-general noted that his “party political life ends now” and that he had not yet made a decision about his role as a deputy.
