A man was sedated upon arrival at the Alto Minho Local Health Unit (ULSAM) hospital after displaying aggressive behavior while waiting for a psychiatric evaluation, according to hospital sources.
“The man awoke and first attacked a nurse, dragging her by the hair. A doctor, who came to assist the nurse shaken by the violence, was also assaulted, receiving a punch to the face that fractured her nose,” the source detailed.
The man, from Ponte da Barca, was restrained by the hospital’s security personnel.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 5:40 AM.
The Public Security Police (PSP), contacted for comment, noted that both healthcare professionals have filed formal complaints. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the man will face public criminal charges.
