Assaults store owner “violently” in Sintra and returns to steal alcohol.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after robbing a commercial establishment in the union of parishes Queluz and Belas, in Sintra.

The suspect, who had a “deliberate intent to seize goods belonging to the merchant, resorted to physical force to ensure his possession, violently assaulting the person in charge of the space, leaving with the items,” detailed the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), in a statement sent to newsrooms on Thursday.

Despite this, the man returned to the location “a few minutes later,” with the merchant “choosing not to intervene for fear of further assault.”

“Taking advantage of this situation of intimidation, the suspect stole several bottles of alcoholic beverages, leaving the premises again with the items in his possession,” the statement reads.

The man was brought before a judicial interrogation, where he was subjected to weekly check-ins, as well as a prohibition from contacting the victim and a restriction from approaching closer than 200 meters to the establishment.

This was an action by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, through the Sintra Police Division.
