Paulo Núncio expressed his views to journalists after the ceremonial session commemorating Portugal Day, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities in Lagos, Faro district, presided over by the Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
In ceremonies attended by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, the CDS parliamentary leader stated that “June 10th should be a day to celebrate Portugal.”
“It is a day to feel proud to be Portuguese, to take pride in our history, our present, and our future. Portugal has all the conditions to be an extraordinary country now and in the future,” he concluded.
Paulo Núncio highlighted President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s act of honoring former President of the Republic, General Ramalho Eanes.
“The distinction for General António Ramalho Eanes was immensely justified. He is a man now recognized by all Portuguese as an extraordinary patriot, a military man, a general, recognized by his comrades,” he asserted.
The parliamentary leader added that Ramalho Eanes “played an important role in the transition from dictatorship to democracy and later had a central role on November 25, 1975.”
“When commemorating the 50th anniversary of November 25 in 2025, it was very fitting for the President of the Republic to honor General Ramalho Eanes as a major figure in our democracy, as a key figure in the transition from dictatorship to democracy. This ceremony greatly benefited from the distinction given to General Ramalho Eanes,” he added.
