In Portugal there are 90 companies interested in the four-day work week

According to the Minister of Labor, the interested companies are from various sectors, especially industry, commerce, information and communication, with geographic variety and of different sizes.

The number of companies that have expressed interest in joining the four-day work weekpilot program totals 90, said the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho.

“We currently have 90 companies that have shown interest in participating” in the project, said the minister in an interview with Antena1 and Jornal de Negócios, adding that the deadline for registering for pilot projects ends on the 15th.

According to the minister, the companies interested in joining the four-day work week project are from various sectors, mainly industry, commerce, information and communication, with geographical variety and of different sizes.

Ana Mendes Godinho also revealed that, as part of the ministry’s digitalization process, an hourly legal aid will come into force next month for those who need support in accessing justice.

As for the labor changes in the scope of the Decent Work Agenda, the minister guaranteed that as soon as the legislation comes into effect, the diploma defining the exemption limit for teleworking expenses will be published.

Minister does not commit to interim increases

In the face of intensifying social protest, the leader said that“we are at a moment in which it is clear that the valuation of wages is critical from a social point of view.

Ana Mendes Godinho assumed that the minimum wage “is the very minimum, below which it is not admissible that anyone is working,” but did not commit to interim increases in the process of evaluating the implementation of the agreement on income and competitiveness signed in October in the Social Dialogue.

Among the measures foreseen in the agreement, the minister highlighted a measure aimed at companies that hire young people with permanent contracts and a minimum salary of 1,320 euros.
