Eurozone inflation rate estimated at 2.0% in June

The annual inflation rate in the eurozone is projected to stand at 2.0% in June, up from 1.9% in May and down from 2.5% in June 2024, as per a preliminary estimate by Eurostat.

According to the statistical office of the European Union, among the main components of euro area inflation, services are expected to present the highest annual rate in June (3.3%, compared to 3.2% in May), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco (3.1%, down from 3.2% in May), non-energy industrial goods (0.5% compared to 0.6% in May), and energy (-2.7%, compared to -3.6% in May).

Core inflation, which excludes more volatile items such as unprocessed food and energy, is estimated at 2.3%, stable from May and below June 2024’s rate of 2.9%.

Among the euro currency countries, the highest inflation rates—measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP)—are estimated for Estonia (5.0%), Slovakia (4.6%), and Latvia (4.0%).

Conversely, the lowest rates are expected to be recorded in Cyprus (0.5%), France (0.8%), and Ireland (-1.6%).

For Portugal, Eurostat estimates an annual inflation rate measured by the HICP of 2.1% in June, a decrease compared to the same month last year (3.1%) and above the 1.7% recorded in May.
