A 37-year-old man was arrested in Lisbon on Monday by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on strong suspicions of committing crimes of child sexual abuse and coercion against his stepdaughter.
In a statement, the PJ reported that the suspect had been forcing the 12-year-old victim to endure sexual abuse since March of last year. The minor disclosed the incidents at school, which immediately contacted the authorities.
“Despite the complaint, the child’s mother and the suspect maintained their relationship,” the statement reads.
The suspect will be brought before the judicial authority for a preliminary hearing and the application of coercive measures.
Throughout the day, the Judiciary Police reported several arrests related to suspicions of sexual abuse and rape.
This morning, the PJ revealed that a 26-year-old man was arrested, suspected of committing a rape on June 10 in Portimão, with the victim being a 16-year-old girl.

The suspect, aged 26, carried out the rape in a car after a meeting with the victim. The crime was reported to the authorities by the victim’s parents after the minor revealed what had happened.
In a second incident at Portalegre Hospital, authorities reported the rape of a 19-year-old woman. The suspect is a 56-year-old man.

The suspect, aged 56, has several previous convictions for rape. Both the assailant and the victim were hospitalized at the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health of Portalegre Hospital.
The PJ also reported a third case involving a 54-year-old man suspected of multiple sexual abuse crimes against an 18-year-old woman with significant cognitive impairment in Oliveira do Bairro.

Later in the afternoon, in another statement sent to newsrooms, the authorities revealed the arrest of a man in Cascais, suspected of committing rape and sexual coercion against an 18-year-old woman.
