New flights will connect Portugal and Cape Verde starting in October.

A series of new air connections with Europe has fueled tourism growth, particularly on the island of Sal, as EasyJet introduces additional flights to three more islands in the archipelago starting today.

In addition to bolstering tourism, a key driver of the nation’s economy, the increased number of flights provides more travel options for the population, which has strong ties to emigration, especially from Santiago Island, home to half of the archipelago’s 500,000 residents.

Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva welcomed the announcement of new flights, sharing a message online that credits the government’s proactive measures to attract the low-cost carrier. He emphasized the positive impact on connectivity, tourism, and the broader Cape Verdean community, both within the country and abroad.

The state investment promotion agency, Cabo Verde TradeInvest, also commented on the announcement, highlighting it as “a boost for tourism and an opportunity to attract investment, stimulate local economies, and strengthen bonds with the diaspora and the European market.”
